About William Nyasulu

William Nyasulu was born and raised in Embangweni, Malawi. Growing up in a Christian home, he aspired to serve God with his gifts, and to gain an education that would enable him to serve in a greater capacity. This hope became a reality when he was accepted at the African Bible College in Lilongwe, Malawi. A four-year Christian University founded by missionaries to Malawi, African Bible College (or ABC) proved instrumental to William's development as an informed Christian.

On a trip to South Africa in July 2001, William happened upon the Rev. Dr. Tony Campolo (Professor of Sociology at Eastern University and Associate Pastor at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church) who was delivering a sermon at Stellenbosch University near Cape Town. It was during Dr. Campolo's message that William felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit to return to Malawi and create a substantive Christian response to the poverty inflicted upon the children of Lilongwe.

In September 2003 to August 2004, William found an opportunity to come to the United States as an intern for Urban Promise ministries in Camden, NJ. For a year, William lived and worked as a mentor and tutor to the children of Camden, while continuing to develop the model for his ministry in Malawi. During his time in Camden, William formed relationships with several key ministry leaders who provided guidance and support for his goal to start a children's outreach organization in Malawi. By the time he left the U.S., William had secured seed money, a small board and staff for what would become YouthCare Ministries Malawi.

For the past four years, William and his wife Jennifer have seen the hand of God continue to be present in the midst of their work. Their After School Programs have grown from 25 to nearly 200, and their Safehaven has retained the same 10 boys they began with. Through YouthCare, God is transforming the lives of many children who were formerly abandoned due to HIV/AIDS and/or poverty. As the 5th poorest country in the world, Malawi is in constant need of support. YouthCare's innovative and indigenous ministry is filling that need. May God continue to do great things through our friends, William and Jennifer Nyasulu.
